Skin Commandments in Your 20's




When I turned 25, I began to frantically look for anti-aging products. I wanted to take all the preventative measures as early as possible. I gave up eating meat, implemented more greens in my diet and tried to drink as much water as I could remember to drink. To some people, 25 is too young to begin thinking about wrinkles or fine lines, but remember that whatever you do in your 20's will reflect in your 40's. At least thats my theory and I am sticking by it. I didn't have much luck asking beauty consultants in the stores for help, they either had no clue or brushed me away by complimenting my skin. So, with no luck with the consultants, I decided to do my own research. My own trial and error throughout the years. The following commandments are for your skin, not just your face.


5 Commandments


1- Water. Drink up friends. Water remains the holy grail to maintaining clear skin. Whenever my body is dehydrated, it reflects directly on my skin. Water is my skins best friend.


2- Exfoliate. Exfoliating your skin 1-2x a week increases blood circulation which yields healthy and glowing skin. I am currently using an exfoliator that I purchased in Paris, reviews coming soon. But some of my absolute favorites are Formula 10.0.6 One Smooth Operator Pore Clearing Face Scrub & this Kiehl's Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub for the face. I am currently using a homemade "xxxx" body scrub. Stay tuned for the recipe which will reveal the yummy flavor of the scrub! When I am not using my homemade body scrub, I cannot resist my Caress Exfoliating Body Wash. The Tahitian smell reminds me of the much needed vacation I need to soon take.


3- Moisturize. The Fall also signifies the dryness of my skin. I make sure to moisturize my face in the mornings with a cream that has SPF. I refuse to tan my face in the summers and I make sure to protect my face against the every day sun exposure. I love using the First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 Face Cream which has SPF 30 protection in the morning and I use the Too Cool For School Egg Mellow Cream at night. For my eyes, I use Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye Concentrate also and Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate for my face. After a nice body scrub, I ensure that I fully moisturize my body with coconut oil. I also enjoy Nivea Cocoa Butter In Shower Lotion as an add-on, during the days my skin needs a bit of extra loving.


4- Face Tanning. I do not tan my face. Yes, it needed its own spotlight. Protect yourself from premature aging and use a bronzer instead!


5- Consistency. The biggest lesson I learned over the years, is the importance of consistency. My commandments seem simple but with consistency, it is all you need to have great skin. Create a routine that works for you and stick by it. You don't have to continue using the same product if it's not working for you, move on, try a different product. But maintain a foundational routine thats consistent. Squeeze in a professional facial once a month to pamper yourself.
